Brazil¡®s annual benchmark interest rate up to 8 pct

The Brazilian Central Bank¡®s Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) decided on Wednesday to raise the country¡®s benchmark Selic interest rate from 7.5 to 8 percent.It was the second hike this year following last month¡®s 0.25-percentage increase.The committee¡®s decision was unanimous and was motivated by a desire to control the inflation rate, which was 2.5 percent from January to April. The government set the inflation target for 2013 at 4.5 percent.
